Morning Skin Care Routine

Looking after your skin shouldn’t be complicated. Read on for our top tips to getting radiant skin from the moment you step out of bed.

Only 30% of users always follow a skincare routine, with 15% rarely or never following a set regime.* It’s easy to neglect the morning routine, especially when life gets busy and sleep more scarce - after all, our morning skincare routine eats into valuable snooze time, right?

We understand the temptation to rely on makeup to wake your skin up. However, taking the time to work a good skin care routine into your morning will help you achieve naturally flawless skin in just a few simple steps.

Looking after your skin shouldn’t be complicated. Read on for our top tips to getting radiant skin from the moment you step out of bed.

Step 1: Cleanse your skin

Start by thoroughly cleansing your skin to remove any dirt or oil that may have built-up overnight. For a cleanser that purifies without being too harsh on your skin, try our micellar water, which attracts dirt, oil and other impurities, without taking any of your skin’s surface moisture with it. Over half of users don’t currently use micellar water in their skincare regime*, but it’s the perfect way to start your day! This all-in-one powerhouse formula is a beauty weapon like no other and there’s no need to rinse. Whether you have dry, oily, combination or sensitive skin, find out which micellar water is best for your skin type.

Step 2: Tone it up

For the second step in our morning skincare routine, it’s time to reach for the toner.

Applying a toner to your skin can shrink your pores and infuse your skin with moisture. Your toner also shifts any dirt, oil or impurities that may linger after cleansing, making it a step that shouldn’t be missed. Particularly during the summer, 38% of people say they have more skin shine or excess oil.* For great results, why not include our Garnier Organic Thyme Perfecting Toner in your morning routine? Formulated with salicylic acid, it’s designed to purify, reduce the appearance of pores and mattify oily skin.

Step 3: Time for the beauty serum

It’s called beauty serum for a reason. Serums are designed to address specific skin concerns while hydrating and nourishing the complexion, all before you’ve even had your morning coffee. Over 30% of users reported having dull looking skin during the winter season.* With limited sun, harsh weather and dehydrating central heating, it’s no surprise, so a skin brightening serum could be exactly what your skin needs. Try using our Vitamin C Anti-Dark Spots & Brightening Serum to help improve your skin’s brightness and reduce the appearance of dark spots. Formulated with Vitamin C, niacinamide and salicylic acid, it’s a must-have in your morning (and evening!) skincare routine. No wonder 8 out of 10 people agree it’s the best serum they’ve used!**

Simply place small dots of the serum formula across your face before massaging it into your skin. There are no particular areas you need to avoid, but give special attention to any dull or uneven-toned areas. Once the serum has been applied, lightly tap your skin with your fingertips for half a minute. This will allow it to absorb into your skin and wakes your skin up for the day.

Step 4: Moisturising is key

Our users’ biggest skin concern is dryness*, which can cause itchy, flaky and cracked skin. With almost half our users citing dryness as their most common skin complaint in the winter, it’s important to reinject some much-needed moisture into your skin. Applying a good quality moisturiser will leave your skin feeling hydrated and nourished throughout the day. The best option for you will depend on your skin type and specific needs.

For those with an oily complexion, try the Garnier Pure Active Matte Control moisturiser, which offers up to 8 hours of relief from shine. Alternatively, there’s our Hemp Multi-Restore Gel Cream, which is great for stressed, dehydrated skin as it’s formulated with Vitamin E and Organic Hemp Seed Oil.

Step 5: Remember your sunscreen

61% of users admit to not using sunscreen on a daily basis,* but sun protection is so important, as  UVA and UVB rays have a massive impact on the health of your skin, even when it’s cloudy. Applying sunscreen daily will protect your skin from damage and help prevent the visible signs of ageing.

We recommend using our Ambre Solaire Ultra-Hydrating Protection Lotion SPF30. This ultra-hydrating formula helps to protect against the drying effects of the sun for a soft and hydrating finish.

Make sure you apply just enough sunscreen to protect your skin, without undoing all the cleansing work you’ve just done. If your skin is particularly UV sensitive then our Anti-Dark Spots & Anti-Pollution Super UV Protection Fluid will work best for you.

Avoid the temptation to apply sunscreen before you moisturise. Applying your moisturiser over your cream could prevent your sunscreen from working its best by disrupting the even coverage.

Step 6: Be gentle around your eyes

The most sensitive part of your face lies under your eyes, and this is also the area that tends to show the most signs of ageing. These areas are delicate, so give it some tender loving care in the mornings. Our eye creams are designed to address a range of issues, including wrinkles and dark circles.

We love the Garnier Organic Lavandin Anti-Age Eye Cream, which helps to protect the delicate skin around the eyes, while reducing the signs of crow’s feet.

With eye cream, a little goes a long way. Squeeze a little blob onto your fingertip and lightly dot it around the orbital bone, situated just below your eye lids. Gently massage it in, and give the area a light tap with your fingers to allow the cream to sink deeper into your skin.

Step 7: Prep your makeup

The perfect way to finish your morning skincare routine is to apply our All-in-One BB Cream. It’s perfectly blended to provide the benefits of a foundation, moisturiser and an SPF. Lightweight enough to let skin breathe, it helps to even your complexion for a great start to the day!

So there we have it, the key to maintaining healthy skin is a simple routine, which involves setting aside just a few morning minutes to re-nourish your skin. A few minutes of care and attention will prepare your skin for the day ahead.
