The Powerful Active Ingredients to Help You Tackle Blemish-Prone Skin

Blemishes, blackheads, oily skin… just some of the skin struggles a lot of us face on a daily basis. There are hundreds of products out there for blemish-prone skin, which is great, but sometimes too much choice can be confusing. We’re here to help – and have compiled a list of ingredients that you should look out for that are perfect for tackling blemishes, breakouts and everything that comes with them.

Charcoal

Charcoal is a natural origin ingredient and powerful cleansing agent. It works by absorbing impurities and drawing out toxins and excess oil from the skin. Because of this, Charcoal is particularly good for purifying and mattifying skin. Try Garnier SkinActive’s Purifying Micellar Jelly Water with Charcoal and Salicylic Acid: it’s an effective daily cleanser that removes make-up, cleanses skin of dirt and impurities and reduces the appearance of pores. If you’relooking for a quick solution to purify your skin, try also Garnier SkinActive's Charcoal and Black Tea Purifying Mask. Enriched with Hyaluronic Acid and natural plant extracts, its formula is suitable for all skin types to hydrate and refresh in just 15 minutes.

AHA

AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid and it includes a different variety. The most famous one is probably Lactic Acid, naturally extracted, and used for its exfoliating properties. It is one of the gentlest AHAs, helping to speed up skin cell renewal for smoother, more even looking skin tone and texture.

BHA

BHA, or Salicylic Acid, is another naturally sourced acid, obtained from wintergreen. This ingredient is one of the OG’s when it comes to breakouts and is best known for its antibacterial properties which helps reduce appearance of blemishes. It’s great for reducing the appearance of and unclogging pores as it exfoliates the surface of your skin. BHA’s are oil-soluble, meaning they can penetrate deep into skin and break up dead skin cells and reduce excess oil, having a mattifying effect.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide, or vitamin B3, is known for its brightening and soothing properties. Garnier uses it a lot in its skincare products, such as our Purifying Micellar Water with Salicylic Acid or our 3in1 Clay Wash Scrub Mask.

To make it super easy for you, we have created a Garnier’s SkinActive AHA+BHA + Niacinamide Charcoal Serum specifically for blemish-prone skin, also suitable for acne-prone skin. We have carefully selected active ingredients that work together to visibly reduce blemishes, mattify skin & reduce appearance of pores. Try also our Vitamin C Anti-Dark Spot Serum, enriched with Vitamin C*, Niacinamide and Salicylic Acid, to reduce the appearance of dark spots and enhancing glow. The serum is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin!
