Pads for makeup removal

Be kind to the planet and your skin with reusable makeup pads. Our pads are great for removing dirt and makeup - over and over again!

No one person or party can flick a switch and save the planet. It's up to all of us to work together and do what we can to care for our environment. Having said that, doing our part doesn't have to mean changing our lifestyles entirely. Saving the planet may sound like a big ask, but a few small changes to the products we use and how we use them can make a world of difference.

In fact, you can do your part to reduce global emissions without even leaving the house by merely adjusting your habits and making the switch to more sustainable products. Something as simple as all of us giving up on single-use plastics in favour of more sustainable, reusable alternatives will have a major positive impact on global carbon emissions and plastic pollution.

It's time to face the facts about face care products, and make-up removal wipes and cotton pads are perhaps the most problematic of the lot.

Are make-up wipes bad for the environment?

Traditional, single-use make-up wipes can have an enormously detrimental impact on our environment for several reasons. Many are made from non-biodegradable plastic fibres which means even if they're disposed of correctly, they can still do damage.

Harm to the ocean

Single-use make-up removal wipes should be thrown out in the bin, or, if biodegradable, be put in a home composting bin. But many of them end up flushed down the toilet. When they're not thrown out correctly, they'll either block sewer systems or be flushed into our oceans, where they pose a considerable threat to marine life. A 2015 report from the Marine Conservation Society showed that the number of wet wipes washing up on British shores had grown by 50% in just two years, while wet wipes make up an astounding 93% of the material blocking sewers in the UK.

They pollute our air

Even when disposed of correctly, single-use make-up remover wipes end up in the landfill. Here, because they're not biodegradable, they'll remain in the environment for at least a hundred years.

What makes this an especially pressing issue is the sheer amount of make-up wipes used and disposed of every day. There are plenty of pollutants in the world, but there aren't many that we use and subsequently waste quite as much as make-up wipes.

Are there reusable cotton pads?

As awareness around the threat of single-use plastics has grown in recent years, many within the cosmetics and skincare industry have shifted focus towards designing alternatives that balance sustainability with comfort and quality.

Reusable make-up pads are washable alternatives to traditional, disposable wipes. They can help you reduce daily waste, but on top of that, they're designed to care for your skin.

Take our Micellar Reusable Makeup Remover Pads, for example. The first reusable Garnier make-up remover, these ultrasoft microfibre Pads last up to 1,000 washes, eliminating daily cotton pad waste.

Able to effectively remove all types of make-up, our microfibre reusable face pads with Micellar Cleansing Water gently removes make-up and cleanses the skin without the need for harsh rubbing. After using them, simply hand wash with soap and water.

The fact that our Pads can be reused for so long means that by making the switch, you'll be playing a huge role in tackling climate change and pollution.
