Find out more with our simple guide, including how and when to use a sheet mask to make the most of these benefits.
What are sheet masks?
Sheet masks, also known as tissue masks, are sheet fabrics shaped like your face, that are soaked in an active ingredient solution. The sheet is made from a range of different materials, including fibres and gel, and because they’re soaked full of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, they can have a range of impressive benefits for your skin.
It’s also important to understand what sheet masks aren’t. They’re not traditional masks, though sometimes the terms can get mixed up. In fact, sheet masks function in a different way to traditional skincare masks.
Traditional masks:
● Come in a cream, mud, clay or gel format
● Can be left on overnight
● Are used for clearing clogged pores and absorbing excess sebum
Sheet masks:
● Are made from paper, cloth or bio-cellulose materials
● Come saturated in serums and emollients
● Are used to bind water to skin for deep hydration
Put simply, traditional masks are typically used for drawing out impurities, exfoliating, or deep cleaning. By contrast, one of the main benefits of tissue masks is that they are best at hydrating and plumping your skin.
They have different functions, so don’t let the use of the term ‘mask’ mess up your skincare regimen! Plus, nothing stops you from using the two products in combination for a purifying and hydrating skincare routine.
